Bright Raven gymnasts win at Niagara Cup
Bright Raven Gymnasts competed at the 2004 Niagara Cup held March 5-7 at University of Buffalo Alumni Arena and brought home many awards.
In the Level 6 competition for gymnasts ages 12 and over, Erin Kolb of Chili took first place on the uneven parallel bars (9.525) and second all around (36.475). Kara Golis of Churchville took first place on vault (9.475), second place on balance beam (9.325) and third all around (35.95). Allison Grove of Chili placed third on vault (9.15). Emily Gutknecht of Rochester earned third place in floor exercise (9.125). Eighteen teams were represented in the Level 6 competition. The Bright Raven Level 6 Team earned the fourth place team award totaling 176.90. Other Level 6 team members contributing to the team score included Amanda Arcieri of Chili and Maura Wojak of Chili.
Bright Raven's Level 4 team was awarded the second place with a total score of 182.20 competing among 6 teams. In the 9-11 age division, Kristina Nupp of Churchville earned first place in floor exercise (9.70) and third all around (36.475). Haley Cunningham of LeRoy was second on floor (9.60). Jamie Gilbert of Chili placed third on beam (9.15). In the 12 and up division, Bethany Jones of Churchville won first place on vault (9.40). Nicole Bonferraro of Brockport was third on vault (9.15). Jackie Bowser of Brockport took second place on balance beam (8.875) and Megan Saraceni of Chili was third on floor exercise (9.00). Other Level 4 team members contributing to the team effort included: Lauren Daggs and Carly King of Churchville, Emily Arnold, Caterina Phichith and Alyssa Richter of Gates, Lauren Ciranni, Melissa Rombola, Amanda Kubitz and Tara Phillips of Spencerport, Holly Garbacz of Chili, Rachel Davis of North Chili, Mary Wittman and Lindsay Plucknette of Greece, Meghan Gutknecht of Rochester and Taylor Youchzee of Byron.
In the Level 5 competition for gymnasts ages 7-8, Emily Thomas of Conesus took third place all around (34.625) and placed second on floor (9.0) and third on bars (8.8). In the 9-11 age division, Amber Harewood of Chili earned first place in floor exercise (9.625), second on vault (9.3) and second all around (36.075).
Competing in Level Optionals, Julie Mingoea of Spencerport took first place in vault (9.425) and second place on beam (9.25) in the 14 and over age division. Amber Kober was awarded third place on beam (9.40) in the Level 7 competition for gymnasts ages 12 and over.
