Land use seminar April 8
The third program in the Cornell Land Use and Community Development Seminar series will be held on Thursday, April 8 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Distance Education Center at Cornell Cooperative Extension Monroe County. Professor Tom Lyson of Cornell University's Department of Development Sociology will discuss the results of his research on the impact of big box retail on local wages and tax base and the desirability of strengthening local business.
Professor Lyson's research at Cornell is focused on local food and agricultural systems in a global economy, community agriculture development, civic community and well-being and food security and health. Lyson is particularly interested in how local agricultural and food related enterprises can serve as engines of economic and community development. In addition to his teaching and research duties, Lyson is also Director of Cornell's Community, Food and Agriculture Program (CFAP).
This series uses state of the art interactive video-conferencing technology that is linked to several other centers within New York and is sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County and the Monroe County Department of Planning and Economic Development.
