Holley jumpers raise over $8,000
for American Heart Association
The Annual Jump Rope for Heart has become a tradition at Holley Elementary School. In its 19th year, the event has raised over $170,000 for the American Heart Association's research and programs. This year, 163 jumpers raised $8,038 by gathering pledges, then jumping rope in teams. Forty-six parents and 24 staff volunteers helped out during the event and provided beverages and snacks to the active jumpers.
The top six students who earned the most pledges were: Corinne Van Schoick ($215), Sydni Schiavone ($200), Emily Radford ($155), Leah Herman ($154), Houston Draper ($150), and Skylar Keiffer ($150). The top team, which raised $528, included Adam Bower, Mark Heath, Brittany Knapp, Jeff Lutes, Michael Pernicano, Dylan Phillips, and Gabrielle Schicker. The top class was Marge Gaskin's sixth-grade class, which gathered $635 in pledges.
Physical education teacher Lisa Campbell has coordinated the event in Holley every year and says that it not only involves the whole school in a worthwhile cause, but gives teachers the opportunity to teach students about the importance of community service, and the necessity of physical fitness and nutrition.
