McQuaid Jesuit students to square off
in final round of mock trials
McQuaid Jesuit's mock trail team captured for the first time in the school's history the local round in the stateside mock trial competition on March 11. This win qualifies the team to participate in the regional tournament in April, and if successful, the team will advance to the statewide finals, with six teams meeting in Albany in May.
The annual statewide high school mock trial tournament, which is sponsored by the New York State Bar Association and is the nation's largest, provides students with hands-on opportunities to further their understanding of the law, court procedures, and the legal system, while honing their speaking, listening, reading and reasoning skills.
McQuaid student participants included area residents Rohan Kekre '04 (Greece); and Shawn Surdyk '04 (Spencerport). Moderator of the McQuaid team is biology faculty member John Ladd.
