Bright Raven Gymnasts compete, qualify for regionals

Tracy Apeland of Chili competed as a Level 9 gymnast in the Women's 9/10 State Championships held in Rochester March 12-14 where she earned an all around total of 34.125. Teammate Brittany Burr of Greece competed as a Level 10 gymnast and earned an all around score of 35.05. Both gymnasts will travel to Cambridge, Massachusetts April 1-4 to compete in the 9/10 USAG Women's Regional Championships to be held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Johnson Athletic Center.

Kevin Kirkland of Greece captured first place all around at the USA Gymnastics Men's State Championships held March 20-21 in Albany. He competed in the Class 5 competition for ages 12 and over. In the individual events, Kirkland was also first on parallel bars (9.05), first on rings (9.00), second on pommel horse (7.60), third on floor exercise (8.30) and third on high bar (8.30). His high all around score of 50.85 has qualified him to advance to regional competition. Teammate John Fitzgerald of Churchville also qualified for the USAG Regional Championships scoring 50.50 at States as a Class 6 gymnast. Both boys will travel to Hanover, Pennsylvania April 17-18.

The Bright Raven Women's teams participated in the Lilac Invitational held March 20-21 at the ESL Center in Rochester where they earned three team awards. The Level 4 team placed second and the Level 6 and 9/10 teams were awarded third place.

In the Level 4 Senior Division, Kristina Nupp of Churchville earned first place in vaulting (9.925), first place in floor exercise (9.45) and third all around (36.625). Emily Arnold of Gates took second all around (36.85) and second on beam (9.35). Melissa Rombola of Spencerport was third on beam (9.325) and Nicole Bonferraro of Brockport placed third on the uneven parallel bars (9.30). In the Junior Division, Haley Cunningham of LeRoy won first place in floor exercise (9.475) and was third on beam (9.00).

Emily Thomas of Conesus captured first place in floor exercise (9.075) in the Level 5 Child Division. Erin Kolb of Chili took second place on bars (9.225) in the Level 6 Senior Division. In the Level 7 Senior Division, Sabrina Hill of Hamlin took second on vault (9.35) and Breanna Fischer of Spencerport was third on floor (9.30). In the Level 8 Senior Division, Julie Mingoea of Spencerport was placed second on beam (9.05). Tracy Apeland and Kerry Apeland competed in the Level 9 Senior Division where Tracy placed third on floor (8.55) and Kerry was third on beam (8.475).
