Spencerport appoints
new elementary principals
Spencerport Central School District has appointed two local school administrators as principals for the Leo Bernabi Elementary School and the Terry Taylor Elementary School.
Andrea Campo, an assistant to the principal at David Crane Elementary School in the Rush-Henrietta School District, has been selected as the new principal at Bernabi. Monica Macaluso, an assistant principal at F.W. Hill Elementary School in the Brockport Central School District, has been selected as the new principal at Taylor Elementary School.
The Spencerport Board of Education approved both appointments April 6 and both will join the district July 1. The new principals replace Maura Eagle and James Alexander, who are retiring.
A Pittsford resident, Campo is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University and earned a master of science in education degree in 1999 from Nazareth College. She has completed certification for School District Administrator and School Administrator-Supervisor from SUNY Brockport. Prior to joining Rush-Henrietta in 1998, she was an elementary teacher in the Rochester City School District and spent several years teaching in Chicago and in rural districts in Georgia.
Campo has two children, Leslie and Patrick.
A Clarkson resident, Monica Macaluso joined the Brockport district in 1999. Throughout her career, she has taught both elementary grades and middle school French and Spanish in several districts throughout New York state. She earned her bachelor of science degree in education, summa cum laude, from SUNY College in Buffalo with permanent certification in Elementary N-6, and Spanish and French, 7-12. She earned a master of science degree in education from SUNY College in Buffalo and a certificate of advanced study in school administration/supervision from SUNY Buffalo in 2001.
Macaluso and her husband, Greg, have four children: Will, Bridget, Marianne and Forrest.
Taylor, with 550 students, and Bernabi, with 400 students, are two of Spencerport's four elementary schools. As part of the process, top applicants were interviewed by a team of district stakeholders that included parents, teachers, clerical staff, teacher aides, administrators and a Board of Education representative.
