Roberts Wesleyan hosts international
speaker to celebrate 50th nursing anniversary
Internationally-known nurse researcher Patricia Benner will speak April 19 at Roberts Wesleyan College as the school observes the 50th anniversary of its nursing program.
Benner will speak on "Interpretive Research Methods - Discovering Practical Wisdom in the Practice of Nurses" at a luncheon from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Family Life Center of Pearce Memorial Church, adjacent to the Roberts campus, 2301Westside Drive, Chili. Benner also will give an afternoon lecture, "The Power of Expert Nursing: Clinical Knowledge Development," from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Roberts Cultural Life Center, Andrews B. Hale Auditorium.
Benner's book, From Novice to Expert: Excellence and Power in Clinical Nursing Practice, will be for sale, and Benner will sign books between the two lectures. Luncheon attendance costs $25. The afternoon lecture and reception costs $10. Reservations are necessary and can be made at 585-594-6330.
Roberts Wesleyan began its baccalaureate nursing program in 1954 and saw its first graduates in 1957. Of approximately 1,200 living nursing alumni, more than half reside in New York state. In 1996, Roberts began an accelerated degree-completion program for registered nurses to earn their bachelor's degrees. More than 150 have graduated from Roberts' R.N. to B.S. program.
