Kostarellis & Wolfe lead Rangers in tennis
Juniors Dimitrias Kostarellis and Chris Wolfe handily won the second doubles match 6-1, 6-1 for their first varsity win in leading Spencerport to a 6-1 victory over Greece Athena in high school boy's tennis. The match, held in cold weather, was the first played by the team on the new courts - part of the multi-year sports facility project.
The Rangers swept the four singles matches led by freshman Amir Aslam's 6-4, 6-3 win at first singles. Junior Greg Markant won second singles 7-4, 6-4 while seniors Brian Kohler and Tom Gurnett won 6-4, 6-0 and 6-1, 7-6 at third and fourth singles respectively. For Gurnett, it was his first varsity win.
Seniors Jason Dorofy and Joe Sirianni took the first doubles match 6-4, 6-1 in their debut varsity match for the other Rangers win. At third doubles, Shamir Aslam and Mark Blankfield won the first set of their match 6-2, but dropped the second in a tiebreaker 5-7 before losing the third set and the match.
