Fundraiser aids local leukemia patient
Kevin McCorry is a 12 year old Spencerport Cosgrove Middle School student. He was diagnosed with leukemia in October 2001 and underwent a rigorous two-year treatment program. In December 2003, Kevin completed treatments and was declared cancer-free. Nine short weeks later, his cancer returned.
Kevin is currently at Strong Memorial Hospital undergoing intensive chemotherapy treatment. He will require a bone marrow transplant, and a national search for a donor is underway. Kevin's family is financially responsible for the testing of all potential donors, as their medical insurance does not cover these medical costs.
A community benefit to support the McCorry family will be held Saturday, May 8 from noon to 6 p.m. at Abbott's Frozen Custard and Costello's Hots, 138 South Union Street in the village of Spencerport. Abbott's Frozen Custard & Costello's Hots will be donating 20 percent of their food sales between the hours of noon and 6 p.m. to the McCorry family.
Additional fundraising activities during the day will include various raffles, musical entertainment provided by Fred Cardella and Moondance Music, a musical performance by John and Mary Bauer, face painting and clowns.
Monetary donations can be mailed to (checks payable to McCorry Benefit Fund): McCorry Benefit Fund, c/o Spencerport Federal Credit Union, 2775 Spencerport Road, P.O. Box 86, Spencerport, NY 14559.
Donations can be mailed to the credit union through June 30.
