Students learn about alternative energy

Brockport Central School District Board of Education member Joan Fenton recently turned her new hybrid car into a learning experience for fourth- and fifth-graders. She talked to students in the Academically Talented program about how the car runs on electricity generated by the braking action of the car and uses less gas. The Alternative Energy Project began last school year with just a few students conducting a research project and has grown into a much larger group. This year, students have used solar panels to run direct current electric motors, researched windmill farms and their locations in New York, and examined the increasing importance of corn in the rapidly expanding field or "green" fuels.
