Fairbanks Road
third-graders learn
about sled dogs
Fairbanks Road third-graders learned how smart sled dogs are from expert sled dog trainer Jim Phillips. Phillips, who is also an author, and four of his sled dogs came to Fairbanks Road school to teach third-grade students the sport of sled dog racing. During his classroom visits, Philips showed students his racing sled and equipment and explained how he trains his dogs. Phillips presented his book series, Base Camp Rainbow Crossing, and introduced his dogs to students. Jim Barnard Chevrolet sponsored the program. Above, (l to r), Fairbanks Road teacher Laura Serpe and sled dog expert Jim Philips introduce Kip, the sled dog, to third-grade students Kelly Oliver and Dalton Letta.
