SUNY's college café receives award

SUNY Brockport's Aerie Café, located in Drake Memorial Library, was the recent gold recipient of the Loyal E. Horton dining award.

Anna Hintz, marketing director with Brockport Auxiliary Service Corp., the organization that handles everything outside of education at the Brockport Campus, said the café won in the category of retail sales single stand alone concept/outlet. The award was presented by the National Association of College and University Food Services.

"The café boasts a unique location in the library," Hintz said. "It's pretty upscale and offers gourmet coffees and sandwiches but I think it is the location that makes it most attractive."

In July, a couple of managers and assistant managers will go to Las Vegas for the national convention and at that time the café will be in the running for a grand prize, which will be announced during the convention.

Hintz said this is the fourth award the college has received from the NACUFS. They also won first place in the special event category; second place in resident hall standard menu for the Brockway dining hall and, last year, they came in second place for the catering department.
