Bridenbaugh, Voorheis lead Saints
Seniors Bethany Bridenbaugh and Katie Voorheis each registered a RBI and Churchville-Chili scored two more runs on wild pitches as the Saints defeated Hilton 5-3 in high school girl's softball.
The Saints, playing on their home field as visitors due to unplayable conditions in Hilton, took a 3-0 lead in the first. Jamie Ryan led off the game with a single and went to third on a Voorheis double. Bridenbaugh then stroked a single, driving in Ryan. Three wild pitches by Hilton plated two more runs before the inning was over.
The Saints got another run in the second inning on a Mary Beth Dillon single to center, a Ryan single and, after a pitch in the dirt allowed both runners to move up, a Voorheis RBI groundout scoring Dillon for a 4-0 lead.
The Cadets got on the board in the fourth inning. Emilie Welch led off with a triple to deep right field and scored on Lisa Eichas' single to right to make the score 4-1 Saints.
Voorheis was again in the middle of a rally for C-C in the seventh with a leadoff double. After Bridenbaugh legged out an infield single putting runners at first and third, Tapeka Pringle pinch ran for Bridenbaugh. Pringle and Voorheis then pulled off a double steal for a 5-1 Saints lead.
The Cadets made the game close in the bottom of the seventh. Meghan Larkin and Marisa Clark led off with singles. Amanda Hayward then stroked an RBI double scoring Larkin and Serafira Chinappi knocked in Clark with an RBI groundout to make the score 5-3 and send the tying run to the plate. But Saints pitcher Rachel Cunningham picked up a strike out and fly out to end the threat and the game.
Cunningham struck out four and allowed seven hits in the complete game win to help C-C improve to 8-2, 11-7. Hilton fell to 7-9.
