Fisher softball knocks out top-seeded Geneseo in ECACs
The St. John Fisher College softball team eliminated No. 1 SUNY Geneseo from the ECAC Upstate Championship with a 4-0 win over the Knights on May 8. Fisher's Amanda Herberger (Kenmore East/Tonawanda) struck out a career-high 13 batters and allowed only two hits to earn the win on the mound. The victory was also her 17th of the year, tying the college-record for wins in a season.
Nikki Cordaro (Hilton/Hilton) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while Tiffany Buk (Rochester Area/Rochester, Pennsylvania) and Katie Botkins (Lakeshore/Derby) each went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Fisher exited the tournament with a 10-2 loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on May 9. Fisher, who lost to RPI 1-0 on Saturday, scored both of its runs in the fifth inning.
The Cardinals finish the season with a 28-17 record, just the third time in the program's 21-year history they have won that many games in a season.
