Brockport village road work scheduled
Drivers may not have to dodge potholes and rough spots on the Village of Brockport's Main Street stretch for much longer.
It was announced at the board's regular meeting on May 18, that the New York State Department of Transportation confirmed they will be resurfacing Main Street (Route 19) from the Main Street bridge north to Route 18.
Mayor Josephine Matela said the DOT has been talking with village officials and said they will begin milling and paving the area this summer. "It will be wonderful to have that stretch of road taken care of," Matela said. "We've had numerous complaints from people about it."
Matela reminded residents that even though that street goes through the village, it is maintained by the DOT. "We voiced our concerns to them as to its state of disrepair and our desire to have the street resurfaced and it is going to be done," she said.
Village officials said the DOT has always responded to its immediate needs such as fixing potholes. "We have a good working relationship with them, but as with any state agency, they are stretched with people, time and money but they assured us they will accommodate us as soon as they can," Matela said.
