Some dispute Ogden's reassessments
Town of Ogden Assessor Bob Criddle reported that 15 percent of Ogden property owners disputed their re-assessments as of Friday, May 14. "Last year, 800 reassessments were done and 38 people disputed them. This year, out of 2,800, 420 property owners spoke with our office," Criddle said. Those who did disagree with their assessments generally had them lowered. A few have made an appointment to appear at the Grievance Day on May 25 but Criddle says the numbers are low.
For those property owners who are not satisfied with their reassessment and would still like to file a dispute, there is still time. They can stop by the Ogden town office, 269 Ogden Center Road, and pick up the appropriate paperwork before the hearing. "There is a lot of paperwork to be filled out and it shouldn't wait until the day of the hearing. Appointments will be taken as late as end of the day on May 24," Criddle said.
Property owners who miss this deadline can still show up at the hearing without an appointment but it is not advised or encouraged, although they won't be turned away.
After the hearing, the property owner will receive a letter in the mail letting them know the outcome. If they are still not satisfied, they must file paperwork with the Monroe County Clerk's Office requesting a small claims hearing.
