Carrie Maziarz candidate for Brockport Trustee
Carrie Maziarz has announced her candidacy for Village of Brockport Trustee. "I am running for the village board because I am passionate about this community and the great traditions it embodies: the downtown shopping, the churches, the close-knit, family-oriented neighborhoods, the schools and college, the historical canal and its Victorian-era charm," stated Maziarz in a press release. "I want to be a voice for the people in this village. I believe taxes must be controlled, that we must trim expenses in all village departments, and that we must pursue ways to generate revenue in this village without automatically resorting to property tax increases. I believe that we need to clean up poorly maintained and unsafe rental properties for the good of the tenants and the neighborhood residential homeowners. It's a quality of life issue. I also believe that we must be able to deliver sufficient public safety at a reasonable cost," the press release stated.
Maziarz, who resides on Adams Street with her husband, Pete, and three sons - James, Peter IV and Joseph - currently serves on the Village of Brockport Zoning Board of Appeals. "Being on the Zoning Board of Appeals has provided me with valuable training in municipal process and procedure. Since my appointment two years ago, I have made it my aim to regularly attend village board meetings, planning board meetings and the budget public hearings."
Most recently, Maziarz was appointed manager of the Brockport Farmers' Market, which is set to open on Sunday, June 20 at 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will run each Sunday until October 31. "The Farmers' market is moving along very nicely. It is a project I have greatly enjoyed putting together. We have 14 farmers signed up already and a tremendous amount of public interest. The market will feature New York state grown fruits and vegetables and will host other community events."
According to the press release, Maziarz, a registered Republican, is running on the Independent Pro-Village Party line. For the past century, the village of Brockport has maintained a tradition of non-aligned, non-partisan elections. "I believe the government that governs best is that which governs closest to home. Support for the Pro-Village party comes from residents who are registered Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Conservatives and non-affiliated. It is a real team effort based on a shared belief: we want the best for our village. Running on an independent party line allows me to make people my top priority, not a party," Maziarz was quoted in the press release.
Maziarz also serves on the Walk and Bike Brockport Committee and is a member of the village's Historic Preservation Board, the Western Monroe Historical Society, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and Preservation League of New York.
