Memorial Day Monroe County Legislator Pete McCann gave a stirring address on the meaning of Memorial Day, recounting his experience in Vietnam and a buddy, Jerry Wilson, who didn't make it back at a holiday observance in Hilton May 31. In support of a Congressional consideration making Memorial Day a permanent May 30 occasion, (instead of a convenient Monday holiday) McCann said: "They've taken the Christ out of Christmas; let's not let them take the memory out of Memorial Day."
