Chili Senior Center programs

The Chili Senior Center is selling the Passport to Savings book for the Spirit of Ontario fast ferry. The book, which includes numerous discounts for Rochester and Toronto, costs $25. The boarding pass, which is included in the book, can be redeemed for $25 off any trip fare (or $28 off an adult foot passenger fare). The books are available to the entire community.   • June Picnic - Black Creek Park, Wednesday, June 23, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. $5 cost includes lunch (hots, hamburgers, salads, dessert). Advance registration required. Stop by the center at 3235 Chili Avenue to register.
  • Trains - trip to the NY Museum of Transportation in Rush on Tuesday, June 29 at 9:30 a.m. The group will tour the exhibits, take a slow ride on the rail line and stop at the restored country train station. After the tour, the group will stop for lunch. $10. For information call 889-6185.
  • Sam Patch Canal Cruise - a trip on the Sam Patch on Wednesday, July 7 from 11 to 2 p.m. Participants will take a leisurely cruise along the Erie Canal beginning at Schoen Place in Pittsford. Box lunch included. $18. To register, stop by the senior center at 3235 Chili Avenue.
  • 5th Anniversary Party - The Chili Senior Center will be celebrating its 5th Anniversary on Thursday, June 24. A party and lunch are planned followed by entertainment by the Smugtown Stompers. Program begins at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $2. For information, call 889-6185.
  • "Sweet Charity," Warren, PA - a trip to see the musical comedy "Sweet Charity" at the Struthers Library Theatre in Warren, PA on Wednesday, July 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The day's events include a sit-down luncheon at Togi's Family Restaurant in Bradford PA followed by the matinee musical performance at Struthers Library Theater in Warren, PA. Fast food stop en route home. $55/resident or $68/non-resident (all gratuities included). Registration for non-residents begins Monday, June 14. For information, call the center at 889-8165.
  • Grand River Luncheon Cruise - trip to Caledonia, Ontario, for a luncheon cruise on the Grand River on Friday, August 20 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Includes a 3-hour luncheon cruise with entertainment, an interesting audiovisual presentation about the Grand River followed by a fabulous live music show featuring "The Blazing Fiddles." Fast food stop (on your own) en route home. Proof of citizenship required. The price is $40/resident and $50/non-resident (all gratuities included). Registration for this trip begins Monday, June 21.   • Chili Senior Golf Group - A golf league offered on Mondays beginning May 3 at Churchville Golf Course. Tee time: 1 p.m. Nine holes are played. Both men and women are invited to play. Purchase own greens fees. A senior pass (for those 62 and older) may be purchased at the pro shop. A tournament will be held at the end of the season. Call Art at 889-1232 for more info.
  • Summer bowling - The Chili Senior Center is offering a summer bowling league on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at AMF Olympic Bowl. Includes three games of bowling, shoe rental and coffee. Must provide own transportation. End of season chicken roast and clam bake. $6.25 per week. If interested, call the center at 889-6185.
  • Prescription Drug Discounts - The Chili Senior Center is offering a program on Prescription Drug discounts. Learn more about Monroe County's new prescription drug discount card from John Armbruster of the Office for the Aging on Thursday, June 10 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. No charge but registration is required.   • HMO Comparisons - program compares health insurances. Blue Choice has three senior health plans and Preferred Care has two plans. Comparing the coverage offered by each of these plans and their cost is a real challenge for Medicare beneficiaries shopping for the "best" plan. John Armbruster from the Office for the Aging will help put these options into perspective on Thursday, June 17 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. No charge but registration is required. Call 889-6185.
