Jon Lauth, son of Patricia and Glenn Peters of Holley and Michael Lauth of Hilton, has been named to the national dean's list. He is a 1995 graduate of Hilton High School and after serving seven years in the United States Army, he is now attending Somerset Community College in Somerset, Kentucky. His grade point average is 3.9 with a major in criminal justice.

His future plans are for a career in federal law enforcement.


Karen Benjamin, vice president and Upstate NY area director at Ciber, Inc. was selected as the IT Woman of the Year at the AWC Awards Breakfast held at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

Benjamin was cited for her consistent focus on building success within her industry and organization through highly trained and motivated employees, by delivering consistent client value, and by streamlining processes to reduce costs and increase revenue. Under her leadership, the Rochester branch of Ciber has grown its revenue from $13M to $23M. The number of new jobs created in the Rochester area grew from 110 to 200. She successfully transformed the business model from providing commodity services to offering full-service with custom end-to-end solutions. The branch enjoys 98 percent rating for customer retention.

This award was developed to recognize, celebrate, and make visible the achievements of women in the IT field. It honors one woman in particular for demonstrating excellence in changing the face of technology. This is the fifth year that the award has been presented. Benjamin is a resident of Churchville.


Scott Ellsworth, son of Carol Ellsworth of Spencerport, a graduating senior studying marketing at Clarkson University, is a member of the University's Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team that was named second runner-up at the SIFE USA National Exposition that was held in Kansas City, Kansas.

SIFE, a national organization with 1,600 U.S. college and university chapters, encourages business students to take what they are learning in the classroom and apply it to real-life situations, using their knowledge to better their communities through educational outreach projects.

In SIFE competition, teams are judged on how well their projects taught others the principles of free enterprise. The Clarkson team, which earlier this spring won first place at the Regional Competition and Career Opportunity Fair held in Hartford, Connecticut, was one of the regional champions from around the country invited to compete at the national collegiate competition.


Amanda E. Davis, a student at SUNY Potsdam, was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi. She majored in childhood education and was a May 2004 graduate. Her parents are Nancy McCabe of Rochester and Daniel Davis of Rush.


Jonathan M. Palma earned his bachelor of science degree in exercise science from Huntington College. Palma's parents are Mark and Patricia Palma of Rochester. He is a Spencerport High School graduate.


Allison Olney, a student at Grove City College majoring in business management, was named to the spring 2004 dean's list. She is a 2003 graduate of Spencerport High School and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Olney of Spencerport.


James Miller has been named assistant vice president and manager of HSBC's Westgate Branch, located at 1829 Chili Avenue. In that role, he will be responsible for managing the retail, commercial and investment activity of the branch.

A native of Irondequoit, Miller received his business degree from Southern New Hampshire University. He resides in Webster with his wife, Shannon, and their two children.


Deborah Clare has been named vice president and manager of HSBC's Buffalo-Elmgrove Branch, located at 1005 Elmgrove Road. In that role, she will be responsible for managing the retail, commercial and investment activity of the branch. She has been with HSBC since 1973.

Clare serves as a member of the Brockport Rotary Club, and the assistant treasurer of Brockport SDA Church.

A native of Rochester, Clare received her associate's degree from Monroe Community College. She resides in Brockport with her husband, Douglas, and their children.


Kimberly Golis, a 2003 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School, has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Rochester Institute of Technology.

Golis, a news media major, is the daughter of James and Janell Golis of Churchville.
