attend National Student Council conference

Four students from Brockport High School's Class of 2005 - Nicole Poupore, Christina Chinappi, Bethany Gill and Caitlin Myers - will be among the 1,800 student council leaders attending the 68th Annual National Association of Student Councils (NASC) National Conference at Silverado High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, June 26-30. NASC, administered by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), offers training at its conferences, focusing on turning student leaders into lifelong leaders.

"The young people that attend the NASC conference come from all over the country and demonstrate an extraordinary level of dedication and enthusiasm," Gerald N. Tirozzi, executive director, NASSP said. "I commend them on their willingness to take on leadership roles and make a difference in their schools and communities."

The Brockport students will be trained in basic and advanced leadership, communication skills and dealing with diversity. They will participate on issues relevant to today's youth as well as an idea exchange with other leaders from across the country. Delegates will also be involved with two community service projects.

"During the NASC Conference, these student leaders will learn more about the important roles that student council can play in their school community. These include: planning and organizing activities for a diverse group of students, service to the school and community as well as input on issues that affect the entire student body," said Rocco Marano, director of NASC.
