C-C student chosen as 2004 Young Citizen of the Year
The Rochester-Monroe County Youth Bureau and Board and the Monroe County Legislature selected Nicole Johnson, a fifth-grader at Churchville-Chili Intermediate School as a 2004 Young Citizen of the Year. Nicole was presented this award by the Monroe County Legislature during a proclamation ceremony on June 8.
To be nominated and considered deserving of this annual award, a young person must demonstrate values that represent the full meaning of a free and democratic society; be committed to volunteer and community service; set a positive example for their peers and display leadership in school.
Her fifth-grade teacher, Margaret Marquis, nominated Nicole for this award. She chose to nominate Nicole for several reasons, her volunteering and community service, positive role-modeling and high academics.
Nicole is a role model for her peers. Marquis describes Nicole as, "honest, responsible and hardworking. She is determined to do her best no matter what the task." As a peer tutor, Nicole inspires students to be successful. Nicole has continued to achieve honor roll while taking part in many after school activities and clubs - Service Club, Student Council, the Goodwill Ambassador Club, volunteer at the Chili Public Library and her church and acting and dancing in community theater and other activities.
