Chili Senior Center programs
The Chili Senior Center has announced the following programs, classes and trips:
Grand River luncheon cruise - a trip to Caledonia, Ontario for a luncheon cruise on the Grand River, Friday, August 20 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The trip includes a 3-hour luncheon cruise with entertainment, an audiovisual presentation about the Grand River followed by a live music show featuring "The Blazing Fiddles." Fast food stop (on your own) enroute home. Proof of citizenship required. The price is $40/resident and $50/non-resident (all gratuities included.) Registration for non-residents begins Tuesday, July 20 space permitting.
Tai-Chi - Classes start Tuesdays, July 13 through August 31 (8 weeks) from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tai Chi improves health and fitness, reduces stress, increases energy level and develops peace and inner calm. The class is taught by Pat Vogler from Northeastern Martial Arts. The cost is $45.
Elder abuse prevention - a free presentation Thursday, July 8 at 12:30 p.m. Learn how to protect yourself (or someone you know) from being a victim of elder abuse. Led by experts at Lifespan. All are welcome.
Golf lessons - Chili Country Club in conjunction with the Chili Senior Center is offering senior golf lessons on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, August 3 through August 26 from 9 to 10 a.m. The cost is $30 for 8 classes.
AARP defensive driving course - courses for adults age 50 and older on Friday, August 13 and 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Chili Senior Center, 3235 Chili Avenue. After completion of the two-day course, participants will receive a 10% reduction in liability and collision insurance. The certification is good for three years. The course is instructed by a certified AARP volunteer instructor. The fee is $10. Other classes are offered throughout the year. Call for dates.
Line dancing class - lessons on Thursdays, July 29 through September 9 (not 8/26) from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Line dancing is a simple combination of steps taught step by step, and done to a variety of music. No partner is necessary. Instructed by Will Herzog. The cost is $12 per person. Minimum of 10 people needed to run this program.
Rochester Marine Tattoo at Blue Cross Arena - a trip to the Blue Cross Arena to see the Rochester Marine Tattoo, Sunday, August 15. The bus leaves the senior center parking lot at 1 p.m. The cost is $23. Space is limited.
Red Wings game - a trip to see the Rochester Red Wings (Twins) vs. Ottawa Lynx (Orioles) on Wednesday, August 11. The bus leaves the senior center at 6:15 p.m. and returns after the game. (Game time is 7:05 p.m.) The cost is $8. Space is limited. Stair climbing is involved.
