Ladies Auxiliary members receive awards at convention
The 85th State Convention of the Department of New York Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States was held in Rochester recently. Department President Patricia Fletcher presided at the event. During the meeting on Saturday, June 26, Terry McGarr was installed as president for 2004-2005. In her acceptance speech, McGarr urged all auxiliary members to join her in the "Beacons of Service to our Veterans and communities."
The members of the ladies auxiliary to the Veterans for Foreign Wars raise funds for cancer research, promote patriotism, protect veterans benefits, help hospitalized and needy veterans and provide numerous community services. Attending the convention from Auxiliary 412 were Sue Ramsey, Virginia Ferrara, Marita Fredette, Betty Trimble, Shirley Collins, Betty Barber, Mary Schaefer and Karen Kemp.
Members of the Chili Memorial Post 412 VFW Ladies Auxiliary received awards and "President of the Year" at the 85th State Convention. Receiving awards were Marge Nickel, third place for Buddy Poppy; Sue Ramsey, first place for rehab; Karen Dotson, third place for Americanism; Virginia Ferrara, second place for hospital VAVS; Marita Fredette, third place for community service; Shirley Collins, second place for cancer and research; and Karen Kemp, first place for publicity. Sue Ramsey accepted President of the Year recognition from Department of New York President Pat Fletcher at a luncheon.
