C-C JHS readers help city school libraries
As part of the Churchville-Chili Central School District's ongoing literacy initiative, the C-C Junior High School (JHS) Leo Club along with JHS English Language Arts teachers and Library Media Center staff, sponsored a student read-a-thon during April.
The Leo Club set a goal for the read-a-thon to raise money to help buy books for Rochester City Schools #19 and #37. JHS students were asked to participate in the read-a-thon by collecting pledges based upon the amount of independent reading they accomplished in April. Thirty JHS students raised $1,000. Seventh-grader Zantel Martin was the top reader and fundraiser, she raised $91.
The money raised will be used to purchase books for Schools #37 and #19. In the fall, JHS students will help sort and deliver the books.
