Horseback riding for the disabled offered
The Paddock Center for Equine Assisted Activities, Inc. has openings for riders and volunteers in the summer and fall sessions. The Paddock Center offers horseback riding opportunities for people of all ages who have disabilities or diverse needs. The sessions are conducted by instructors certified by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association, Inc. (HARHA).
Volunteers are needed to assist with lessons. No horse experience is necessary, as training is provided. Quiet horses are also needed for the program. Therapeutic riding provides participants with cognitive, physical, social and emotional benefits. A variety of programming is offered including riding and horsemanship lessons, interactive vaulting, and sport riding. Future plans are to include therapeutic driving and a hippotherapy program. The Paddock Center focuses on a person's strengths in an inclusive setting.
An open house is scheduled for July 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. to learn more about this unique program and the opportunities offered. The Paddock Center is located in Clarkson, just north of Route 104 at 3400 County Line Road (Route 272). For information call 585-750-4398 or 585-737-1272.
