Hamlin celebrates its heritage
The Hamlin Heritage Committee announced that this year's theme for Hamlin Heritage Day will be "School Days."
The August 27 evening celebration will be held at the Hamlin Town Hall and park. The building now used as the town hall was formerly Hamlin School #6, Town Historian Mary Smith said. "This school was built in 1929 so this is the 75th anniversary of this public building."
To celebrate the importance that this structure has in the Town of Hamlin, the Heritage Committee plans to highlight Hamlin School #6 along with the one-room rural schools, which were part of Hamlin's educational heritage. Paintings and other exhibits pertaining to schools will be on display.
Anyone who has memorabilia from their school days at any of the Hamlin schools and who would be willing to display it for Hamlin Heritage Day, can contact Smith at 964-2101 or Shirley Hollink at 964-7528.
