basketball program development
Ory Mee, who recently stepped down as Hilton Central School's Varsity Boys' Basketball Coach, has run youth basketball camps for almost twenty years under the Hilton-Parma Recreation Department. This week, 66 area boys are participating in what is expected to be his last summer instructional basketball program. Director of Recreation Steve Fowler, who has coordinated these opportunities through the years, said Coach Mee stressed three basic elements at his camps: a large quality staff for lots of individual instruction, keeping the costs to the participants as low as possible, and never turning anyone away who would like to learn the game of basketball. "Coach Mee is known for making himself available throughout the entire year with open gym opportunities, clinics, instructional camps, and has always been genuine with this commitment to our youth," said Fowler.
Mee is credited for beginning an all-star basketball opportunity for third grade youth back in 1997 and incorporating interactive clinics with his varsity players and the participants of the H-P Rec youth basketball program.
This summer camp has two new twists, as the program participants are playing in the newly constructed gymnasium at Village Elementary, and Coach Mee has arranged to have incoming Varsity Coach, Troy Prince, handle the instructional responsibilities the final two camp days.
