Spencerport School tax rate decreases
A 13 cent tax rate decrease was announced by the Spencerport Central School District Board of Education when it approved a property tax rate of $24.58 per $1,000 of assessed value. This represents a decrease from last year's rate of $24.71 and a reduction of nearly 2.5% from the tax rate the district had projected in the spring. The rate was set at the board's Tuesday, August 10 meeting.
Final figures from the town assessors showed a greater than projected increase in assessed property values within the district, said Fred Seiler, assistant superintendent for business.
"We can now implement the programs and the new bus proposition that were approved by district residents in the budget vote this year," said Superintendent Phillip W. Langton. "We will continue to offer students the excellent education this district is known for."
A preliminary estimate of state aid is near what the district had planned in the new school budget. By law, districts cannot spend more than the dollar amount that residents approved in the budget vote. This year's budget is approximately $55 million.
The school tax bill for a home with an assessed value of $100,000 in each of the district's four towns is an average of $2,458. The tax rate for the Town of Greece, which has an equalization rate of 96 percent of full value, is $25.61 per $1,000 of assessed value, but taxpayers will see tax bills equivalent to the other towns in the district.
