BOCES 2 director selected for special education advisory panel
Joe Kelly, director of the Department for Exceptional Children at Monroe 2 Orleans BOCES in Spencerport, will serve as a member of the Commissioner's Advisory Panel for Special Education Services (CAP). Kelly, filling one of two special education administrative positions for New York state, will represent administrators of programs for children with disabilities.
In his new role, Kelly will help guide the state in developing policy that positively impacts the education of students with disabilities, give input to resolve issues and encourage best practices. "I feel that I have a lot to offer the committee based on my experiences," Kelly said. "My best preparation has been my 16 year career at BOCES 2. We have so much work left in this state to better prepare students with disabilities for their future in society and the world of work."
Kelly, an Irondequoit resident, lives with his wife, Diane, and five children. He coaches youth baseball and basketball and is involved with other community activities.
