Returning Hilton students will find construction projects in full swing
Hilton High School and Hilton's Merton Williams Middle School students returning to classes September 8 will find their schools in the midst of construction and renovation projects. "Our contractors are prepared for school's opening about three weeks away," said Hilton Interim Superintendent of Schools C. Tod Eagle, "but some things are not going to be as expected." For the past two years, all schools in the district have been undergoing renovations and new classroom construction. Phase II, the High School and Middle School, is scheduled to bring various projects online this school year, according to Gary Bagley, Capital Project Clerk of the Works. All Phase I elementary school construction is complete including full-day kindergarten classrooms, the first year the district has offered a full-day program. New library/media centers are under construction at both the high school and middle school as well as the commons cafeteria at the high school. "It is our hope to minimize inconveniences this fall as improvements are made to the High School," High School Principal David Dimbleby said. "We are excited about the changes taking place and the positive, long-term effect on our students." Students and their families have been informed of the changes at both schools through summer newsletters and the district web site, www.hilton.k12.ny.us, is also posting updates.
