Roberts adds music to degree repertoire

A master's degree in Music Education will be offered at Roberts Wesleyan College starting in January 2005. The M.Ed. in Music Education joins several other M.Ed. programs already offered by Roberts, including certifications in Childhood Education, Special Education, and Adolescence Education (in English, math, social studies, biology, chemistry or physics).

Graduate music education students may choose from courses in music curriculum; vocal pedagogy (for teaching voice); instrumental pedagogy (for teaching instruments); choral conducting techniques; instrumental conducting techniques; methods and techniques in music composition and arranging; technology in music education; jazz improvisation and arranging.

M.Ed. Music students may also participate, for credit, in the Roberts Wesleyan College Chorale or College-Community Orchestra and other instrumental and jazz ensembles; also, they may earn credits through advanced study of applied piano, organ, voice, instrumental or jazz techniques and literature.

The program requires 12 credits in music as part of 36 credits for the degree. It is designed to be flexible to accommodate working teachers or recent graduates, as well as full-time students.
