Chili Lions Club marks anniversary
The Lions Club of Chili will commence its 40th anniversary celebration Saturday morning, September 25 with a special postal cancellation at the North Chili Post Office, 3235 Union Street, North Chili. The cancellation will feature a drawing of a Lion on a swing accompanied by the post office designation, and the description, "Still swinging into action after 40 years."
The cancellation was designed by Lions Florence and George Goodwin of the Chili Club, who enlisted the computer skills of the club's president, Keith Bozek. The drawing of a Lion on a swing was originally the design chosen for the club's anniversary pin, and was the creation of Lion Enrique Miyares's daughter, Mari.
Cancellation activities will take place all morning at the post office. Those wishing to obtain the cancellation must present an envelope bearing a first class United States postage stamp, which will then be cancelled.
Anyone wishing to take advantage of the cancellation by mail may do so within 30 days of the original cancellation date, by enclosing a stamped, addressed envelope in another cover and addressing it to the Postmaster, Lions Club of Chili Sta., North Chili, NY 14514. Regular outgoing mail from the post office will bear the regular cancellation mark unless the special cancellation is requested.
