Annual beach clean-up campaign seeks volunteers
For the 19th year, the New York Chapter of the American Littoral Society is seeking volunteers to participate in a beach clean-up event. The day long activity will take place at more than 300 beaches state wide on September 18. (Rain date September 19).
In 2003 more than 10,000 New York volunteers gathered and collected more than 334,000 pounds of debris at 351 sites. In addition to cleaning the beaches, data is collected on ways to combat pollution, increase public participation in solving the problem and increase appreciation of the coastal environment.
