New book offerings for
Parma Public Library's adult book discussion
The Parma Public Library invites all interested adults to the library on Tuesday, September 21 at either 2 or 7 p.m. to join in on the discussion of Life of Pi by Yann Martel. In this work of fiction, 16-year-old Pi and his parents set out for Canada aboard a Japanese cargo ship. His father, an Indian zookeeper, has brought many of their animals with them to sell to zoos in North America. Shortly after they set sail, the ship sinks. Pi is the only human survivor and is cast adrift in a lifeboat with some strange traveling companions including a zebra, an orangutan, a hyena and a 450 pound Royal Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. When only Pi and Richard Parker remain alive, Pi learns quickly how to assert his will and engage in a grand scheme to keep from being Richard Parker's next meal.
Other titles on the agenda for the Adult Book Discussion Group's fall schedule will be Tuesday, October 19 - Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser, Tuesday, November 16 - White Teeth by Zadie Smith, Tuesday, December 21 - A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers. A limited number of copies of Life of Pi will be available at the Parma Public Library in regular, large print and talking book formats. There is no registration for the Adult Book Discussion and walk-ins are encouraged. For information call the Parma Public Library at 392-8350.
