Spencerport reorganizes school administration
The Spencerport Central School Board of Education has approved the recommendation of Superintendent Phillip W. Langton to reorganize the district's administrative leadership to provide greater support for student academic achievement, according to a press release from the district. No additional administrative positions are being created, but titles and responsibilities are changing, Langton said.
"We need to focus on what we teach and how we teach until 100 percent of our students reach and exceed our district and state standards," Langton said. "By reorganizing our Instructional Office, we will be more able to do that."
The plan calls for creating the positions of director of elementary education and director of secondary education, which will focus on curriculum and instruction at the K-5 and 6-12 class levels. The district will eliminate the positions of Director of English Language Arts and Director of Technology.
Key among the personnel changes that Langton will propose to the board on September 7 is that Gerald Bucklin, principal at Spencerport High School, will serve as Director of Secondary Education once a successor is chosen for the high school position. The search for Bucklin's replacement will begin immediately, and a new high school principal is expected to be in place by the end of the semester. Carol Robinson, the current director of English Language Arts, will be recommended for the Director of Elementary Education position.
"With all the rapid changes in math, science and technology, the district has long wanted to put greater emphasis on these academic areas and this change gives us that opportunity," Langton said.
According to the press release, the restructuring of the instruction office will help achieve the district's strategic objective that all students will possess the knowledge, skills and attitudes to meet or exceed district and state standards and that the district will assess and align resources for that goal. Robinson and Bucklin also will focus on other strategic objectives, such as implementing the school-wide enrichment, character education and community service programs.
