Monument shelf-sitter unveiled, offered for sale
The Brockport Fire Department, in cooperation with Lock, Stock & Barrel Gifts at Eastview Mall, Victor, hosted an invitational with artist and sculptor Richard Kron as they released the "Fire Museum and Firefighter's Memorial Monument" shelf sitter. Each year, Lock Stock and Barrel adds three new images or replicas to their Rochester Landmark Series and this is the latest addition to the collection.
Lee Kirk of Lock, Stock and Barrel approached the Brockport Fire Department during the summer of 2003 to plan this addition to the Landmark Series. The Monument Chairman at the time, the late Scott Warthman, was very excited about them including the monument in the series, and plans have been underway ever since. Drawings had to be developed with color specs provided, the text was drafted for the reverse and the fire department has worked side-by-side with Kirk as they commissioned "The Cat's Meow" of Wooster, Ohio to create the image now seen on the Shelf Sitter.
The inscription on the reverse reads, "These wood carvings pay tribute to FDNY and feature "Ground Zero" firefighters raising the American Flag amidst the rubble of the World Trade Center Never Forget September 11, 2001. Design by Chief D. Scott Warthman. Wood Carvings by Richard Kron. Commissioned by the Brockport Fire Department, Dedicated August 18, 2002."
Lock, Stock and Barrel has made a limited number of them available to the Brockport Fire Department for sale as a Fund Raiser for the Firefighter's Monument. They will be available at the monument on Saturday, September 11 during the Memorial Vigil from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. After that they will be available at the store at Eastview Mall until they are retired from the series.
Anyone with questions can stop at the monument on September 11 or call the Fire Chief's Office at 637-1030 and leave a message for Christopher Martin, Monument Chairman.
