Tax rate approved in C-C, lower than projected

A tax rate of $24.65 per $1,000 of assessed property value was approved by the Churchville-Chili Board of Education at its August 10 meeting. The $24.65 rate is for taxpayers in Ogden, Chili and Sweden. The tax rate for the Town of Riga was set at $25.15 per $1,000 due to a reduction of the town's equalization rate.

The approved tax rate is less than what was estimated in the proposed 2004-05 school budget. The projected tax rate indicated residents would see a 3.34 percent tax increase, but because of additional state aid, as well as increases in tax assessments, the actual increase is 1.28 percent.

A taxpayer with a home with an assessed value of $100,000 in the towns of Ogden, Chili or Sweden would pay $2,465 in school taxes. A taxpayer with a home assessed at $100,000 in the Town of Riga will pay $2,515.
