Spencerport was ready for some football! The Spencerport Rangers football team enters their new stadium in the inaugural event against the Hilton Cadets. The Rangers racked up 21 points in the second half to beat the Cadets 28-6.

The Ranger’s P.J. Cowie out-maneuvers the Cadet’s Dan Eichas to catch a 12 yard pass from quarterback Joe Millitello in the end zone for a touchdown. It gave the Rangers a 6-0 lead. Photographs by Walter Horylev.

Dedication celebrates facilities, community teamwork

Hundreds of community members, representatives of local organizations, politicians and Spencerport football fans showed up Saturday, September 11, to dedicate the new Ranger athletic facilities at Spencerport Central School District.

"I would like to thank our entire school community and the K-12 facility task force, the Spencerport Sports Booster Club, the Football Founders and Parents Club, the Soccer Club, and our local civic organizations -- Rotary, Lions and Kiwanis -- for their tremendous support of the project," said Superintendent Phillip W. Langton. "I am confident that many of our residents will enjoy use of this beautiful facility."

State Senator George Maziarz, joined by State Assemblyman Bill Reilich, presented a flag that had flown over the New York State Capitol. Other speakers include David Dorofy, president of the Spencerport Board of Education, Bob Stevens of the Football Parents Club and Keith Rich of the Sports Booster Club.

As part of the district's $46 million capital project, outdoor athletic facilities were enhanced to offer more athletic opportunities to the students and community. A new multi-purpose football field with a six-lane, all-weather track was added, complete with spectator seating for 1,100 and a press box. The new scoreboard was provided courtesy of the Rotary, Lions and Kiwanis clubs. Six soccer-lacrosse fields and five softball fields were created and the 10 tennis courts were renovated. The project also increased and improved spectator parking and use opportunities for local organizations.
