Rangers lose in second half
Spencerport led 1-0 at half-time in girl's soccer, but couldn't hold on as Greece Aracadia scored three in the second half for a 3-1 victory.
The Rangers dominated play early in the game. After Jennifer Alessi was taken down just outside the box in the fourth minute, the Rangers Michele Palma took the free kick. Her shot hit the wall of Arcadia players before she put the rebound off the post. Five minutes later, Stephanie Snyder put a corner kick in the box, but Sam Hawn headed it just over the crossbar.
In the 26th minute, Spencerport finally converted when Cristy Cousin carried down the left side and cut to the middle. She found Palma who scored to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
With just two minutes left in the second half, Arcadia threatened, but Becky Scroger made a diving stop to preserve the half-time lead.
It would not last, however. Arcadia tied the game in the 53rd minute on a goal from Jessica Shufelt and took a 2-1 lead in the 63rd minute on Brittany Goolin's goal. The Rangers had a couple of offensive chances over the final eight minutes of the game, but could not convert before Arcadia's Lisa Curtis took advantage of the Ranger backline moving up for offense to score with just 22 seconds left for the 3-1 win. Spencerport fell to 2-2 with the loss.
"In the first half, we won the loose ball battles and in the second they did," said Rangers head coach Jamie Schneider. "They just outworked us and had the better second half."
