Chandler leads Ranger netters
Tied 14-14 in the fifth and deciding game of their boy's volleyball match with Hilton, Spencerport Rangers scored 11 of the final 13 points to win 25-16 and improve their record to 4-1 on the young season.
The host Cadets won the first game 25-18 on three kills and a game-ending ace by Jesse Rapke and the Cadets held a 20-15 lead in the second game before the Rangers recovered. Jason Chandler had four of his game-best 29 kills in the comeback as Spencerport went on a 10-2 run to win 25-22.
Hilton again led the third game 13-9, but the Rangers offense spread the ball around with kills from Chandler, Joe Roth, Michael Pavone and Chandler again to take the lead. The Cadets retook an 18-17 lead, but an ace from Matt Larson and kills from Chandler and Pavone highlighted the finish of a 25-19 Ranger win.
In the fourth game it was the Cadets turn to come from behind. Down 13-5, Hilton went on a 20-7 run and took the lead for good on a block by Cal Palumbo and kills by Rapke and Mike Fowler to win 25-20 and force the fifth game.
Palumbo finished with 22 kills and 11 blocks for Hilton while Casey O'Connell and Fowler combined for 37 assists. Rapke had 13 kills and Donnie Hebert 15 digs in the loss.
Chandler added 10 digs to his 29 kills for Spencerport with Christian Woodard handing out 13 helpers, Steve Wood adding 11 kills and eight digs and Pavone chipped in with six kills.
