Droegmoeller hat trick sparks Rangers
Senior Nick Droegmoeller scored three goals and added an assist and Dominic Colaprete added two goals as Spencerport trounced Greece Olympia 6-1 in boy's soccer. The Rangers are ranked first in Section Five and lead their division with a 5-0-1, 6-1-1 record.
The Rangers put two goals on the board before some fans found their seats as Droegmoeller netted two goals in the first five minutes. The first was a header off a cross from the left corner by Colaprete; the second followed a beautiful touch pass through the defense by Jason Bloom to a wide-open Droegmoeller.
Spencerport scored three more goals in the first half as freshman Dominic Coco put home a rebound off the Olympia goalkeeper and Colaprete scored his first when he one-timed a cross from the right corner from Thomas Graham for a 4-0 lead. In the final minute of the half, Droegmoeller completed his hat trick off an assist from Andrew Morgan.
The Rangers made it 6-0 just three minutes into the second half when Graham set up Colaprete with a long cross that was headed in. Olympia broke up the shutout bid when Kevin Kelley scored on a penalty kick for a handball in the box in the 75th minute.
Drew Hopkins, Ryan Myers and Alex Mayer split time in goal for Spencerport and were called upon to make just two saves.
"It was good to see a quick start," said 10th year head coach Tom Etsler. "We won most of the balls in the air and the 50-50 balls and just played well as a team. We have a tough week ahead so this was a good way to start."
