Ogden historian hosts
open house in recognition of Archives Week
On Tuesday, October 12 from 4 to 7 p.m., in recognition of New York State Archives Week, Town of Ogden Historian Carol Coburn will hold an open house to showcase Ogden's past New York State Archives grants accomplishments. This year's theme is "Sharing and Caring for Our Past."
Visitors can stop by the Ogden town clerk's office where Town Clerk Lynn Bianchi, the town Records Management Officer, will offer a tour of the town record archives room and show examples of restored town board minutes, original deeds for town land, and other materials she has been able to preserve. Jeff Tewksbury will be available from 4 to 6 p.m. to demonstrate the GIS system that was developed under an archives grant and which is being improved under a current grant.
Town Historian Coburn will great visitors in her newly reorganized office where she will display the results of her grant which engaged the help of a professional archivist. A new software program for historical records will be demonstrated and an 1858 oilcloth map, tax records from the early 1800s, minutes of community group meetings and one room school house boards, and other records will be available. Handouts will be available on how to trace the history of a house, postcards of Spencerport, how to care for quilts and other historical topics. Displays will cover topics such as vintage houses in Spencerport, photos of local historical sites, RLB trolley depot restoration information and suggestions of how you can help preserve the town's past for generations to come.
