Blessing of the Animals

St. John's the Evangelist Elementary School in Spencerport held their annual Blessing of the Animals Ceremony. Each year school and parish families bring their pets to St. John's School for the Blessing of the Animals Day. Those children whose families were unable to bring in their pets drew pictures for Father Dennis to bless. During this open air service, Father Dennis read from scripture about how animals were created and named, how they were saved from the flood on Noah's Ark, and how St. Francis is the patron saint of animals. This year, a number of dogs and cats, a few rabbits and guinea pigs and a ferret were present for the event. Submitted photo.
