3M withdraws request to rezone Brockport property
Attorneys for 3M withdrew a request for rezoning of property on Oxford Street in Brockport, Mayor Josephine Matela reported at the October 18 board meeting.
"We received a faxed letter from 3M's attorneys stating their intention was to withdraw their request for a rezoning and that their intention is to never rebuild in that area but to have the space remain green space," Matela said. "However, we will be working with the village attorney to put deed restrictions in place."
Resident Wayne Bennett approached the board at the meeting telling officials that he had canvassed the neighborhood and had gotten a petition signed voicing the residents' opposition to a rezone request. "I understand their letter said they don't plan to pursue a rezoning at this time, but we need to have a way to make sure the east side of Oxford remains residential," he said.
Trustee Mort Wexler thanked Bennett for his work in getting the petition signed. "We've gotten a reprieve from 3M right now but it (the issue) will probably come back," he said.
