Work begins on Parma Monument of Remembrance
The Town of Parma has begun a major renovation project to the Veteran's Monument at Parma Town Hall. This flagstone designed structure located in front of the Town Hall building was constructed 29 years ago, serves as the main pole for the U.S. flag, and is utilized for Parma's municipal memorial services. Through the years, routine maintenance and several updating features have been added to the monument area; however, the current project will include the installation of a new concrete base throughout the 960 square foot surface, a new footing of the flagpole, extensive pointing to the brick, resetting the flagstone, and the installation of the walkway to the monument which will be accessible to all individuals, according to Parma officials.
In the spring, the town board secured a $13,000 financial contribution from the Community Development Block Grant program and is utilizing the town resources to assist with financing this renovation. The Parma Highway Department is completing the excavation process, and the Parks Department will handle the landscaping and finish site work, according to town officials. Parma has contracted with Lion Construction for the masonry and redesign aspects of the monument. All work is scheduled to be completed prior to Veterans Day, November 11.
