Teams compete for Chil-E Bowl trophy
The 18th Annual Chil-E Bowl games were played on Thursday, October 7 and Friday, October 8 at Gates Chili High School. This annual event has the boys and girls varsity soccer teams from Gates Chili and Churchville-Chili competing for the coveted Chil-E Bowl trophy.
This year's games saw the boys' team from Gates Chili defeating the Churchville-Chili team by the score of 2-1, while the final score of the girls' game was 3-0, with Churchville-Chili defeating Gates Chili.
On hand to present the Chil-E Bowl trophies to the winners were Chili Town Supervisor Tracy Logel and Chili Recreation Director Michael Curley. Supervisor Logel also presented the Jack Flowers MVP awards to the recipients on each team.
The Jack Flowers MVP award is named after the former Athletic Director from Churchville-Chili who was instrumental in the creation and yearly success of the Chil-E Bowl. In tribute to Jack's memory, Chili Recreation annually recognizes a player from each team who displayed skill and sportsmanship. These players are chosen by the opposing coach and this award remains an ongoing component of the Chili-E Bowl.
The MVPs from the boys game were Bill Gustafson from Gates Chili and Brett Faro from Churchville-Chili. Alexia Georgiou from Gates Chili and Sarah Bigley from Churchville-Chili were this year's MVPs for the girls game.
