Spencerport Rotary collecting sneakers for recycling program
The Spencerport Rotary Club has recently launched a sneaker recycling program called Rotary Re-Treads. This is an environmental project designed to keep discarded sneakers out of landfills. Well-worn or beat-up sneakers will be shipped to the Nike Company's Reuse-A-Shoe Program, to be ground up and made into new products, such as sports fields and running tracks. The shipping and grinding are all done at Nike's expense. New to "gently-used" sneakers will be redistributed to second owner. Rotary members ask that sneakers be tied together in pairs for easy sorting.
Rotary members are asking the community to spread the word to recyle their unwanted sneakers. If any group/organization would like a poster/sign and a collection box, call Rotarian Milt Danko at 352-4367.
Rotary has placed drop-off/collection boxes in the community at the Ogden Library, Spencerport Village offices, Spencerport's middle and high school and Barefoot Sportswear.
