Black Belts earned by locals at Gillam Grant
Japanese Sword Instructors Richard Hawley, Stanley Stephenson and David Nagel were promoted to second degree Black Belt (Ni-Dan) in laido on October 23. To earn their promotions, all demonstrated proficiency in sword katas, techniques, teaching and history. In addition, each designed and presented a personal sword kata. The laido test was conducted by Sensei Cyndy Jones as part of the Byron-Bergen Gillam Grant Martial Arts Program.
Sheri Dumire-Hamilton, Drew Guest and Ray Mondschein tested for and were promoted to Black Belt (Sho-Dan) in laido. In addition, Frank Jergler, David McCunn, Amber McGrath and Andrew Sacco were promoted to orange belt.
