Saints, Rangers prep for playoffs
Churchville-Chili and Spencerport met for what has become a traditional late season boy's volleyball grudge match with the Saints coming away with a 26-24, 25-14, 22-25, 25-18 victory.
The Rangers held an early 14-11 lead in the first game before the Saints closed with a 15-10 run. With the game tied at 23-23, the Rangers took a one-point lead after a long serve. But consecutive kills by Saints senior Chris DeHority, Sean Krisher and a quickset kill by Scott Ozarski gave C-C the win.
Spencerport had a 6-5 lead in the second game as well, before the Saints dominated the rest of the game with a 20-8 spurt. In the third game, it was the Saints turn to lose the lead as the Rangers came back from a 17-15 deficit and won on a Jason Chandler kill and an ace from Matt Larson.
Churchville-Chili won the final game to take the match as they led 6-0 at the start and by as many as eight points with DeHority registering three consecutive kills toward the end of the match.
DeHority led all players with 20 kills and Mike Fink handed out 43 assists in the match as the Saints improved to 14-3 and are vying with Penfield for the Division I title. Spencerport's Chandler and Kevin Curran each had 13 kills with Christian Woodard passing out 13 assists. The Rangers are second in Division II behind Irondequoit as both teams prepare for sectional playoff action next week.
